A clash between the ruling party and the opposition in the parliament of the Maldives

 There is a clash in the parliament of Maldives. Some MPs have also been injured in the clashes between opposition and ruling MPs.


The clash occurred after the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the main opposition party close to India, protested the proposal to appoint 3 ministers and an attorney general in the coalition government led by President Mohammad Muijju, who is close to China.


According to the BBC, the reason for the clash was the issue of passing the names of the proposed ministers through the parliament. This dispute increased so much that there was a handshake between the ruling party and the opposition. Due to the beating, some MPs suffered head injuries. One MP had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. The video of this clash in Parliament is viral on social media.


In Maldives, there is a coalition government of Progressive Party of Maldives and People's National Congress (PPM) and PNC. Mohammad Muizzu, who won the election with the slogan 'India out', is the president. On the other hand, the opposition party of Maldives is close to India. The opposition parties have been strongly criticizing the government saying that the current government has spoiled relations with India.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the main opposition party in Maldives, has opposed the four members that the government wanted to appoint.


MDP had decided not to support the proposal of the four members who were going to be appointed to the Council of Ministers before the voting in the Parliament. According to the BBC, the dispute turned into a clash after the MPs of the ruling party protested. After that, there was no voting on the matter of passing the proposal for the appointment of members of the Council of Ministers.
