The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, promises a severe retaliation for the fatal bombing incident.

Promising a stern response, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the greatest leader of Iran declared that Wednesday's bombing incident on individuals gathered to commemorate Iranian icon Qasem Soleimani's death anniversary would be met with severe retaliation. Thursday was observed as a day of mourning in Iran where at least 84 people fell victim to this attack according to government resources. "In a statement, Khamenei stated that brutal offenders must understand they will face severe consequences from now on." No group or individual came forward to claim responsibility for the attack, which seemed to be the most lethal one targeted towards Iran since its 1979 Islamic Revolution. The number of casualties initially reported as over a hundred was later reduced by emergency services in the country to eighty-four on Thursday morning. Over two hundred and eighty individuals were injured according to reports from emergency responders. Several groups could be responsible for the attacks, including Sunni extremists like ISIS who have previously carried out assaults within Shiite Iran.
